L-FL boys second at SEWAC

PINE BLUFFS – The Lingle-Fort Laramie track and field teams began their march towards the season-ending state meet last Saturday with the annual SEWAC Championships, hosted by Pine Bluffs High School.

The Dogger boys ended the day as SEWAC runners-up, while the Lady Doggers finished fourth. Glenrock swept the SEWAC championships.

In the boys’ division, the Doggers claimed six top finishes by three individuals and a relay team.

Freshman Myles Wilson and junior Kyland Fuller led the way with two wins apiece.

Wilson swept the distance events, winning the 3,200-meter run in 11 minutes, 27.26 seconds, while sophomore teammate Remington Bremer, who finished fourth in 13:23.27.

Wilson also won the mile in a personal record time of 5:11.69.

Fuller won both middle distance events, winning the 800-meter run in 2:21.17, while Bremer was fourth in 2:34.99.

Meanwhile, in the 400-meter dash, Fuller beat out freshman Nolan Spears by three seconds as L-FL took the top two spots.

Fuller also ran the final leg of the 4x400-meter relay, along with Spears, Wyatt Sylvester and Cooper Hill to win the event in 3:51.27.

Hill picked up the other win of the day in long jump with a leap of 19 feet, 11 1/2 inches. In the only other field event, Sylvester finished fourth in pole vault at 9 feet.

Fuller and Hill finished second and third, respectively, in the 200-meter dash, while Hill also finished second in the 100-meter dash in 11.49 seconds.

In the hurdles, Spears finished second in the 300-meter race in 45.48 seconds, while freshman Aidan Mattheus was eighth. In the 110-meter race, a trio of Doggers finished in the top eight. Senior Dustin Swartwood led the trio with a sixth-place finish in 20.78 seconds. Mattheus and sophomore Kyle Gutierrez finished seventh and eighth, respectively.

In relay action, the sprint medley relay team of Michael Lawrence, Gutierrez, Mattheus and Swartwood finished second in 4:36.4, while the 4x800 team of Sylvester, Gutierrez, Bremer and Wilson finished third in 10:10.38.

As a team, the boys scored 125 points to finish second. Glenrock won the team title with 154.5 points. Pine Bluffs was third with 91.

In the girls’ division, freshman Natalie Speckner and sophomore Emma Walker paced the Lady Doggers with five wins on the day.

Speckner picked up wins in the 3,200-meter run, 1,600-meter run and 800-meter run.

The freshman led a trio of Lady Doggers in the two-mile race. Speckner crossed the finish line in 14:24.09, while freshman Holly Leiseth was third and Hailey Smith fourth.

In the 1,600, Speckner won in 6:10:16, while Leiseth was fourth in 6:42.45.

The duo again teammate up in the 800-meter run to finish first and fifth, respectively.

Speckner also ran the final leg of the sprint medley relay, along with Leiseth, Maddy Saul and Ashley Hattan to win the race in 4:48.89.

In the hurdles, Walker picked up a win the 100-meter hurdle race in 17.46 seconds, while also winning the 300-meter event in 52.87. Freshman Josie Houk finished eighth in the 300 and 10th in the 100.

The 4x400 and 4x800-meter relay teams finishing the runners-up spot.

The 4x400 team of Hattan, Walker, Saul and Maddie Heilbrun competed the race in 4:49.58, while the 4x800 team of Heilbrun, Hailey Smith, Morgan Cornelius and Izzy Spears finshed second in 12:56.45.

Meanwhile, the 4x100 team of Saul, Frederick, Walker and Hattan placed fourth in 56.18 seconds.

In the dashes, Saul finsihed seventh in 13.98 seconds, while Frederik was 13th. Meanwhile Cornelius was eighth in the 400-meter dash in 1:24.76.

In field events, Heilbrun led the way with a third-place finish in high jump, clearing 4-8. In long jump, Hattan was seventh at 13-5 3/4.

In throwing events, freshman Izzy Spears placed fourth in discus at 92-4 – a personal record, while freshman Leah Foster was 14th and junior Sarah Searle 16th. In shot put, Foster was eighth at 28-3, while Spears and Searle were 12th and 16th, respectively.

As a team, the Lady Doggers placed fourth with 106 points. Glenrock won the team title with 157 points. Southeast was second with 119.

The Dogger track and field teams will help host the 1A East Regional Track Meet on Friday and Saturday at Wiseman Field. Action gets underway at 9:30 a.m. Friday and 9 a.m. Saturday. Class 2A and 3A teams will also take part in the regional meet in Torrington.

Small group takes part at Wiseman Invite

Four members of the Lingle-Fort Laramie track and field team also took part in the Wiseman Invite on Friday in Torrington.

Wyatt Sylvester was the lone boy, and he placed 14th in pole vault with a height of 9-3.

In the girls’ division, the 4x100-meter relay team of Maddy Saul, Abigail Frederick, Emma Walker and Ashlee Hattan placed sixth in 55.23 seconds.
