Knudsen to be sentenced in February

TORRINGTON – Former Goshen County Attorney Gregory Knudsen will be sentenced by Judge Dawnessa Snyder on Feb. 10, 2021, at 1:15 p.m. in the Eight Judicial District Courtroom.

Knudsen pleaded no contest to two charges of felony third-degree sexual assault and three charges of misdemeanor stalking in Goshen County District Court on Oct. 26.

Knudsen was previously elected as the Goshen County Attorney, served as a Torrington Municipal Judge and was also a general practice attorney. He was disbarred by the Wyoming Supreme Court in July 2019 after he admitted to engaging in an inappropriate sexual relationship with a client.

An information was filed on March 26, 2020, alleging Knudsen had committed five counts of stalking, three counts of third-degree sexual assault, one count of burglary and one count of unlawful contact.

Knudsen was arrested and then granted a $10,000 personal recognizance bond for his release on March 31. He waived his right to a Preliminary Hearing and the case was bound over to the Eighth Judicial District Court. Knudsen pleaded not guilty to all of the charges against him.

On Sept. 2, Knudsen and his attorney, P. Craig Silva, and the Special Prosecuting Attorney, Kevin Taheri, entered into a Binding Plea Agreement and Knudsen, through his attorney, requested a change of plea hearing.

According to the agreement, Knudsen would plead no contest to two counts of Third-Degree Sexual Assault and three counts of Stalking, while the remaining counts would be dropped. In addition, the State would agree to a period of probation and suspended incarceration in lieu of Knudsen being incarcerated. The agreement was binding between Knudsen, his attorney and the State, but not the court.

On Oct. 26, Knudsen, Silva, and Taheri appeared before the Eighth Judicial District Court. Judge Snyder accepted Knudsen’s no contest pleas, but expressed the court was not part of the plea agreement and would not be subject to the terms of the agreement. Snyder ordered a presentence investigation to be conducted through probation, prior to Knudsen’s sentencing hearing.

According to the Order of Sentencing Hearing filed with the district court, the presentence investigation’s deadline is on or before Jan. 26, 2021 with the sentencing hearing scheduled for Feb. 10 at 1:15 p.m.
