TORRINGTON – Graveside funeral services for Kathryn “Kate” Leachman, 100, will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2018, at the Valley View Cemetery with the Rev. Bill Eaton officiating. 

Kate died Nov. 9, 2018, at Granite Wellness in Cheyenne. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Kathryn Mary Gross Shearer Leachman was born June 6, 1918, in Highspire, Penn., to James B and Sarah (Beistline) Gross Sr. She was the seventh child of eight. She had one daughter Ann Lee Shearer Thomas. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Carlisle, Penn. She worked at a crystal plant during World War II. She was also a waitress and a salesperson. She was an avid card player, enjoyed auto racing and family get-togethers.

She and her daughter moved to Fort Laramie in 1954 where she worked as a waitress, mail carrier and post mistress. She also became a fisherwoman, and loved to fish. Kate was a member of the Fort Laramie Presbyterian Church and a member of the Moose Lodge. She was married to Fritz Leachman until his death. She moved to Cheyenne in 2002 to live with her daughter and son-in-law.

Kate is survived by her daughter Ann Lee (Floyd) Thomas; granddaughters Lisa Skinner and Abbie (James) Madrid; four great-grandchildren: Sarah, Jacob, Ryan and Vincent; and six great-great-grandchildren Kalynn, Johnathan, Harper, Olive, Weston and Carson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Thelma Conrad, Anna Line, Aliene Mahoney; and four brothers, Henry Gross, John Gross, James Gross and William Gross.
