YODER – Joshua Stewart Irons was born Jan. 11, 1990, in Cheyenne. Two years later the family moved to a farm near Yoder. Josh graduated from Southeast High School in 2008, and attended Pike’s Peak Community College where he studied his first passions, music and art.
Josh loved working with his hands and was very mechanical. He held jobs including auto repair, factory work, construction, roofing, and landscape. Josh’s hobbies included hunting and fishing, snowboarding, and off-road motorcycles.
He was involved in both secular and Christian bands, playing the guitar, drums and cajon. He loved to DJ weddings and parties using his sound mixing equipment and skills. He enjoyed attending concerts and music festivals whenever possible. Josh was a very well-loved, fun-loving, outgoing young man who easily made friends and touched lives wherever he was.
After the city of Joplin, Mo., was destroyed by a tornado, Josh traveled there with a team of volunteers and worked for a month assisting with clean up. He came to West Michigan in late 2015 to attend Teen Challenge of Muskegon, where he graduated the program and spent a short time on staff, after which he decided to make the area his home. He then spent most of 2017 in Zeeland living with his uncle and aunt.
He was a member of Lake Effect Church in Grand Rapids, Mich., where he worked as a volunteer managing and setting up their sound and recording systems each week, and occasionally sitting in with the worship band playing his cajon (box-drum).
