SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. – Jose Eleno Oliva, 73, of Scottsbluff, formerly of Torrington, passed away at home in Scottsbluff, surrounded by his family on June 25, 2017. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on June 30th, at the Dugan Kramer Funeral Chapel with Pastor Agustin Portillo officiating. Visitation will be held 4 to 7 p.m., June 29th at Dugan Kramer. Jose Oliva was born on May 30, 1944, to Thomas and Margarita (Gutierrez) Oliva in Jalisco, Mexico. He grew up herding goats and cattle. When Jose was 18 he joined the military for a short while, until he went back to work.
In 1968, he married Maria Luisa Munoz and together they had five children, two in Mexico and three in the United States. In 1998, Jose introduced another child into the family. Maria and Jose immigrated to the United States and settled down in Wyoming, where Jose found work in concrete and agriculture. Jose worked at Torrington Livestock for 25 years. He also personally raised all types of farm animals including cows, pigs, and sheep.
Jose was a hard-worker and made sure to teach his children the values of hard work and a strong work ethic. Jose loved his family above all else. He will be remembered for his genuine kindness, and for always joking and making people laugh.
He is survived by his children: Eleno Oliva, Sara (Moises) Vazquez, Margarita (Juventino) Barraza, Guadalupe Oliva, Leodan Oliva, Diana Oliva, 13 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren and many other family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Margarita Oliva, and former wife Maria.
