YODER – For Roxanne Jolovich, family comes first.
Her son will be entering his freshman year in high school, while her daughter will be beginning her sixth-grade year in school.
They played a role in Jolovich’s decision to recently step down as the Southeast High School volleyball coach.
“Both of them having their own sports schedules, and it was hard enough with my son playing junior high football while I was coaching,” Jolovich explained. “With three sports schedules, it would have made it difficult to make it to any of their events. That’s the part of my life I want to focus on with my kids and being there to watch them because it goes so fast.”
Her decision ends a 13-year run at the helm of the Lady Cyclone program.
“It’s been amazing. I have had so much fun doing it,” Jolovich said. “I loved the opportunity to coach all of the girls that I’ve coached throughout the years and the people I’ve coached with. We had many great successes. There were many challenges. I think everyone grew through those challenges.”
Jolovich’s career ends with a 258-117 record, and the final game she coached was her first and only state championship she coached in.
“As I look back on it, just knowing we made it that far and came so close, I feel if that game would be replayed or any one ball would have been replayed, the outcome could have been different. We were so evenly matched with Riverside. It just happened to be how the ball fell on different plays, and it fell in their favor. The excitement of getting to coach in the state championship game and be a part of the team with those girls as they played in it was an honor.”
During her tenure, the Lady Cyclones qualified for state nine of the 13 years. In the nine trips to state, Southeast brought home five trophies from Casper, including a state runner-up, three third-place finishes and a consolation championship.
“I am grateful for the opportunity that I was able to be the coach at Southeast High School for 13 years,” Jolovich said. “I’m very proud of the success we had over that time.”
Despite hanging up the whistle, she will still be in the stands cheering on the Cyclones at volleyball and all the other sports.
“I wish everyone success,” she concluded.
