LINGLE – Funeral services for John Lee Peterson, 77, will be at 2 p.m.  today (Friday, March 17, 2017,) at Community Presbyterian Church in Lingle, with the Rev. Vickie Kintzel officiating. Burial will follow in the Hillcrest Cemetery. Mr. Peterson died March 13, 2017, at Goshen Healthcare Community.
Visitation was Thursday at the Colyer Funeral Home. The casket will be open prior to the service at the church.
John Lee Peterson was born Jan. 20, 1940 in Torrington, the son of Roscoe and Alice (Fee) Peterson. He graduated from Lingle High School in 1958. While he was in school he was active in 4-H and in 1954 his Hereford steer won
Grand Champion.
Mr. Peterson worked on his family’s farm/ranch. He loved to raise a garden and to grow roses. He was an accomplished dancer and pianist.
He was active in numerous community activities, from teaching cooking classes to serving on the boards of the Goshen County Fair, South East Mental Health and Wyoming Municipal Power Agency. He also served a term as mayor of Lingle and was Chairman of the Farm Bureau Young Farmer Rancher Program.
Mr. Peterson was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Virginia (Messer) Peterson. His cousin Dana Lynne McElroy survives him.
