Inmate takes own life at prison

TORRINGTON – An inmate at the Wyoming Medium Correctional Institution in Torrington died early Wednesday, apparently by his own hand.

According to a press release from the Wyoming Department of Corrections, John Manuel Garcia, 24, originally from San Antonio, Texas, died Wednesday at Community Hospital in Torrington shortly after 1 a.m. Garcia was transported by paramedics following what was described in the release as “an apparent suicide attempt.”

Garcia was sentenced on Sept. 24, 2018, in Carbon County District Court to three to five years for felony Property Destruction. An autopsy has been ordered in accordance with WDOC policy and an investigation is underway, the release stated.
