TORRINGTON – Torrington Mayor Randy Adams has appointed local attorney Nathaniel Hibben to serve as the Torrington Municipal Court judge.
Hibben succeeds Greg Knudsen, whose term expired on Dec. 31. Hibben has served behind the bench in Torrington as part of a three-man rotation in the past.
“For years, I’ve been planning to become the mayor,” Adams said. “Throughout all of that time, I’ve been planning what it is I want to do. Knowing who the potential judges were and knowing Nate Hibben, I thought if I became mayor that’s who I would appoint.
“When the opportunity came, I became mayor, and that was one of the appointments I had to make.”
Hibben has his own practice in town, and is currently serving as the President of the Wyoming State Bar. He was also a junior prosecutor with the Goshen County Attorney’s Office until he stepped down recently to focus on his other duties.
“It’s my honor and pleasure,” Hibben said. “I was certainly glad when the mayor asked me to do it, and I’m happy to serve in that role. I’m happy to do it.”
Adams said he decided Hibben was the best fit for the job after seeing how involved he was in the community.
“I’ve watched him for a few years,” Adams said. “I’ve watched him in the community. I’ve done a little research on him through our municipal attorney in the legal field. I know that he was a Supreme Court clerk, so he knows the background and he has good knowledge. I’ve seen him with his family at sporting events, baseball games, little league-type stuff, such
as that.”
