TORRINGTON – Funeral services for Harold “Wayne” Sellers, 95, will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 7, 2017 at the United Methodist Church with Reverend Jeff Wayland officiating. Burial with Masonic and Military honors will follow in the Valley View Cemetery. Wayne died July 31, 2017 at his home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to either the Torrington Senior Friendship Center or the United Methodist Church. The casket will be open for one hour prior to the service at the church. Wayne was born July 12, 1922, in Torrington to William Grover and Mary Marie (Bartmess) Sellers. He attended Torrington public schools and graduated from Torrington High School in 1940. He studied Mechanical Engineering at the University of Wyoming for three years, then joined the U.S. Navy and finished his Engineering degree through the V-12 Navy College Training Program at Iowa State University in Ames. He was an Engineering Officer on the USS Maloy in WWII. He married Joyce Mae Edwards in Trinidad, Colo on June 22, 1947. They moved to the farm in Torrington, where he farmed until 1969. He also joined the Masons and became a Past Master, was active in Gleaners Union, served three terms on the local school board, was a member of the “Last Squad Club” of WWII veterans, the Wyoming Historical Society, Sigma Tau Epsilon, Honorary Engineering Fraternity, the Kappa Sigma fraternity and an Air Force Academy host. He began working as an engineer for the Holly Sugar plant in Torrington in 1962, first during campaign and later year round. In 1969 Holly Sugar asked him to relocate to Hereford, Texas, and then a year later to Brawley, Calif., for five years, then to Tustin, Calif., for sixteen years and eventually to Colorado Springs, Colo., where he worked at Holly Sugar’s Corporate Office until he retired in 1989. In 2000 Wayne and Joyce returned to Torrington to live on the farm. They have enjoyed these past 17 years refurbishing their farm home and enjoying the company of long-term friends
and neighbors.
Wayne is survived by his wife of 70 years, Joyce Mae Edwards Sellers of Torrington; five daughters, Jean Sellers of Laramie, Cathy (Ben) Murillo of Torrington, Becky (Don) Wyatt of Cave Creek, Ariz., Barbara (Jeanne) Sellers of Riverside, Calif., and Suzanne Chowla of Redwood City, Calif. He is also survived by his niece Zella (Phil) White of Dallas, Texas, and two grandsons Chris (Carolyn) Murillo and great-grandson Oscar Murillo all of New York City, New York and Alex (Leslie) Murillo of Redwood City, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother Laverne Sellers; and a sister Eileen
Hubbard.
