TORRINGTON – Family and friends of Harold Eugene “Gene” Evans, 68, of Torrington are invited to a memorial gathering at 3 p.m., Nov. 17, 2017, at the VFW Hall in Torrington.

Gene passed away Oct. 23, 2017, at the VA Medical Center in Cheyenne following a year-long battle with cancer. Per Gene’s request, cremation has taken place.

Gene was born in Rogers, Ark., on Nov. 25, 1948, the son of Clarence and Winnie (Edmonson) Evans. The family moved to Huntley in 1952. Gene was graduated from Goshen Hole High School on May 18, 1967, and went on to study at Wyoming Tech in Laramie
in 1968.

After graduating, Gene was drafted into the U.S. Army. He was initially station at Fort Bliss, Texas, and later sent to South Korea for advanced training.

Gene was married to Willmeta “Willy” Hanson on Jan. 2, 1982. The couple had two sons, Brandyne and Boyd Evans, both of Torrington. Gene and Willy were divorced in 1991 and then remarried in December 1993.

Gene was a mechanic by trade, priding himself on being fair and honest. He worked at Stickney’s from 1978 to 1986, then at Tri-State Tire for one year before moving to Terry’s Tire Shop in 1988. After leaving Terry’s, he opened his own business, Gene’s
Auto Repair.

Surviving are his wife, Willy; sons, Brandyne (Raelynn) Evans and Boyd Evans, both of Torrington; brothers Arnold (Linda), Bob, Larry (Ronda), Dave (Cathy) and Donald (Jennifer) Evans, all of Wheatland, and Leeroy (Nancy) Evans of Torrington; sisters Dorothy (Bernie) Matthews, Anita Johnson and Carolyn Moehr, all of Wheatland, and Betty King of Torrington; grandchildren Taylar and Remington Hanson and Braedynn and Braxton Evans and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding Gene in death were his parents, grandparents, three brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law.

The Evans family would like to see all Gene’s friends and family at the VFW Hall to honor the life and memory of this very kind and generous man.
