Hall named 2021 Daniels Scholar

GOSHEN COUNTY – This year, 240 high school seniors from Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming were selected to receive a Daniels Scholarship. Jadyn Hall was one of these students.

Hall said she heard about the scholarship through word of mouth at school.

“It’s such a good opportunity, so the counselors and teachers, and everyone really helps promote it,” she said.

According to the Daniels Fund website, the program gives “college scholarships for young people of exceptional character, leadership, and a commitment to serving their communities.”

Scholarship amounts vary depending on college choice and financial need, but the Daniels Fund will contribute up to $25,000 per year, after other scholarships and financial aid.

This year, 39 students from Wyoming were selected, according to the Daniels Fund’s official announcement.

Applications were due mid-November.

Hall recalled the application process as writing essays and answering questions on how she views the world. For example, she said one essay prompt asked if she believes the “American Dream” is still achievable.

She was also asked about her activities and community involvement.

“So, it’s basically a bunch of questions just to get to know you and where you stand on things,” she said.

Applicants are notified whether or not they have been selected as a finalist in January, according to the Daniels Fund website.

After being notified she was a finalist, Hall did a panel interview with five community leaders from across Wyoming. This year, because of COVID-19, interviews were conducted over Zoom. Hall said the interview was very conversational.

“They really just want to get to know you better,” she said.

In early March, Hall received a letter notifying her she had been selected for a scholarship.

“It was really great,” she said. “It was really a big weight lifted off of everyone’s shoulders.”

Hall has grown up in Veteran. During her time at Southeast, she has played basketball, competed in high school rodeo and been Student Council Vice President.

With math and history currently as her favorite areas of study, Hall said she is looking to earn a degree in Ag Business.

Hall plans on attending Casper College, then transferring to either the University of Wyoming or Chadron State College. Hall hopes to continue her rodeo career into college.
