Hair today, gone tomorrow

Posted

After going to both the state soccer tournament and state track meet this past weekend, I am convinced that some of the best heads of hair on high school athletes hail from Goshen County.
To give the local athletes some recognition for their abilities in growing hair, I have decided to name my own “all-hair” team, which is based on my own opinion and nothing else.
Players
Logan Harris – Rocking one of the two best manes in the county, Harris was an obvious selection. During football, it wasn’t too noticeable because he always had a helmet on, playing on both sides of the ball. It was rare to catch a glimpse of his locks while on the gridiron. This spring, his mane has been on full display. While throwing shot put and discus, it is hard to get a picture without his hair is his face, but that is one of the main reasons he gets on this list.
Garrett Cooper – I think as far as big hair goes, Harris and Cooper should be 1A and 1B. It’s not the exact same style of ‘do, both are glorious in their own right. Like Harris, Cooper’s helmet stifled his hairstyle during football, but he has had two seasons to show off his stuff. The headband has been a nice addition during both basketball and soccer.

Dallen Fleenor – Switching up hairdo’s, Fleenor has a head of hair I think anyone would be jealous of, men and women alike. His long, flowing blonde hair was a spectacle on the sidelines of the LFL football games. In basketball, he didn’t allow it to flow like in football, but kept it in a fashion all his own.
Quinton Steinbock – The final straw that solidified Steinbock’s position on this list was at state track. He had half of it up in a bun and he left the other half to flow. During football and through the winter, it seemed like he always had a helmet or hat on, but he let his hair shine during the spring. Watching his hair fly all over the place during high jump sure was a spectacle.
Nathaniel Woodruff – Woodruff was a recent addition to my all-hair team. It hit me at state track that he belongs on this list as much as anyone. During the shot put at the state meet, he had the opposite effect as Harris. Instead of his hair getting in his face right when I was trying to get a picture, it would fan out behind his head and provide for a pretty cool visual.
Noah Arnusch – Arnusch’s hair style is the epitome of letting it all hang out. From what I have seen, he has some of the longest hair among the local athletes. Letting it flow while running is always a good look and Arnusch seems more than content to rock it.
Coaches:
Matt Cornelius and R.B. Hackbarth – Coach Cornelius has the man bun of all man buns among coaches and players in the area. During football, girls basketball and middle school track, his bun can always be spotted on the sideline. Although coach Hackbarth does not coach any high school sports, he belongs on this list, as he still coaches in the county, just not at the high school level. This whole summer I’m expecting to see his hair on the third-base line during little league and I am looking forward to it.
Honorable mention:
William Fluckiger, Chance Werner, Ty Mueller, Tyler Ring and Trace English – Fluckiger recently got a hair cut, but he still deserves to be mentioned. Before the cut, he could have really contended for a first-team spot, but even after the cut, he still represents the county well and deserves to be in the discussion. Werner, Mueller and Ring have hair long enough to draw attention. They each have the flow, but they keep it trimmed, giving them a spot in the discussion. English has the only true man bun on a player that I have seen in the area. I think Cornelius’ bun is top-notch, but it would be a travesty to not have a player with a man bun not mentioned.
All in all, I don’t think any county can rival Goshen County’s hair across the board. I’m not sure what sport my all-hair team would play, but whatever it was, I know they’d handle business with style.
