First of all, I would like to thank everyone in the county who has supported the DAV (Disabled American Veterans). Not only with our yearly raffles but also in your support in our organization.
The DAV, like the American Legion, the VFW and a host of other Veterans groups, was started by returning veterans from World War I. But unlike the other groups, we are more selective in our membership. Our members consist entirely of veterans who are disabled, from 5% to 100%.
Our utmost mission is to help veterans, whether by helping them to navigate through the Veterans Administration maze of bureaucracy to become eligible for compensation or pension, to a one time financial help for bills.
Our second is to help organizations in the community, especially young people and first responders. So far, we have donated to the Torrington Fire Department during the Prairie Center Fire, The DARE Golf Tournament, Shop with a Cop, and this year we donated to the Torrington Twisters Softball team.
We couldn’t do any of this without the community’s support and we thank each and every one.
So, if you are a veteran or know of a veteran who needs help, please call one of us. We are here to help.
