GOSHEN COUNTY – Several Cloverbuds from Goshen County 4-H spent last Friday, June 18th, at the Goshen County Fairgrounds for Cloverbud Camp.
The day camp included a variety of hands-on activities and group games and ended with water activities.
4-H Cloverbuds are five to eight years old.
“They are not competitive, but we still provide a lot of opportunities for them throughout the year,” said Megan Brittingham, 4-H/Youth Development Extension Educator.
The junior leaders plan and orchestrate all the activities, according to Brittingham.
During the morning activities, Junior Leaders Keana Llewellyn and Kodie Anderson helped Cloverbuds plant different types of flowers to take home.
Anderson said being a junior leader has taught her a lot about leadership and planning. She said planning Cloverbud Camp is their way to learn how to lead in the future.
According to Anderson, about eight junior leaders facilitated camp. Brittingham estimated around 20 campers.
“It’s their way of learning what 4-H is about,” Anderson said. “It kind of teaches them how to participate in 4-H in the future.” She said it is valuable for younger 4-H members to learn about different areas of 4-H and meet new people.
“My mom asked if I wanted to do this and I was saying in my head, ‘well it might help me to learn new things,’” Cayson explained.
In the morning, groups rotated from station to station, making kites, playing sports, gardening and experimenting with oobleck. After lunch, the group played some games and had a water fight and played on a slip ‘n slide.
