Goshen County schools to remain online for remainder of school year

In a special meeting of the Goshen County School Board Tuesday night, GCSD No. 1 Superintendent Ryan Kramer confirmed that most students will be finishing out the 2019-2020 school year remotely – and most will not be returning to a regular classroom until the fall due to precautions to slow the spread of COVID-19.

“For a large percentage of students, well over 90 percent of our students, we will finish the remainder of the school year remotely,” Kramer said.

“The majority of classes are providing work at the beginning of the week. We are looking at mid-May to be the end of the assignments, around May 12 or 15. That week, the teachers will provide their last set of assignments to the students. When they complete those assignments, the instructor will indicate they have completed the criteria to complete the school year.”

While that will be the last week of assignments, students won’t be totally off the hook. Students will still be responsible for checking in with their teachers and making sure they have completed all previously assigned work.

There will be face-to-face instruction for select special needs students starting May 4. There could be opportunities for groups of two or three students to return to in-person instruction during the summer in an extended school year, should they struggle with remote learning.
