Goshen County officials are drafting a request for a variance to Governor Mark Gordon’s public health orders that would lessen the restrictions for restaurants, bars and churches.
According to a press release issued by Goshen County Public Health, county health officer Marion Smith is seeking feedback from restaurants, bars and churches to draft the variance, which would then have to be approved by state health officer Dr. Alexia Harrist before restrictions would be eased.
“The County Health Officer has chosen to seek feedback on countywide variances by industry,” the press release said. “The variance guidelines will be shared to the restaurants, bars and churches. The County Health Officer is willing accept additional feedback from other potential proposals per the state guidance.
“The developed variance guidelines will be summited to businesses as listed above and given the opportunity to review and comment on said guidance.”
The variance guidance will eb returned to the county health officer and Goshen County Attorney Eric Boyer to put together a draft variance, which would then be sent to Harrist.
“After review, the outlined variance guidance will then be returned for draft to the Goshen County Health Officer and County Attorney by Wednesday, May 6th 2020 at 4:00 p.m.,” the release said.
“Upon final review and approval of the County Health Officer, the Variance Orders will then be submitted to the State Health Officer for final approval on Countywide Variances.”
Until the variances are approved, the release said, Goshen County will adhere to the third continuation of Gordon’s statewide health orders, which are in effect until May 15. Those orders permit hair salons and gyms to reopen their doors, but ordered that restaurant dining rooms and bars remain closed. The orders did re-open restaurant lobbies for takeout orders.
