Goshen County 4-H’ers see success at State Shoot

DOUGLAS – The 2019 Wyoming 4-H State Shoot was held on July 11-14 in Douglas, Wyo., with Goshen County being represented by nearly 20 members. At the state contest, three youth participants from Goshen County won a very special award: a trip to Raton, New Mexico’s NRA Whittington Center this Sept 4-8. Each year, 12 winners are selected during the state competition based on their outstanding shooting skills. This year, Goshen County 4-H members William Howell, Josie Andersen, and Destiny Beaman were among the lucky 12 competitors selected to attend this elite event and represent not only Goshen County, but Wyoming, as well at the national level.

4-H members had the opportunity to compete in eight different events of their choosing during the state contest. Senior team members Whitney Foos, J. Andersen, and Howell finished the state contest as the first-place senior air rifle sporter team and third place in both the small bore (.22) rifle and pistol competitions.

Junior members also represented Goshen County well, finishing third place in the junior air rifle sporter competition, with 4-Her’s Kaeden Barkman, Madison Gibson, Gaige McFarlin, and Dutch Ogburn occupying those team positions. Gibson and McFarlin were then joined by Devon Bauman and Brayden Posten in the .22 rifle contest, placing fifth in that event.

Beaman united with fellow senior members J. Andersen, Foos, and Howell to obtain fourth place in the air pistol contest, while junior members Kodie Andersen, Boden Barnes, and Jordin Eutsler teamed up with Gibson to take the third-place spot in the .22 pistol contest and ninth place in the junior air pistol competition.

Jordan Barth, Sean Hawley, and Beaman competed in class D as a team in the senior age division and placed ninth in the archery contest, with junior team members K. Andersen, Bauman, Eutsler, and Posten placing seventh in class A.

The senior shotgun team earned eleventh place with the combined efforts of members J. Andersen, Barth, Foos, and Hawley, while Beaman, J. Andersen, and Howell placed seventh in the muzzleloading competition.

“A big congratulations goes out to all of our youth competitors – you represented Goshen County very well!” 4-H Educator Megan Brittingham said.
