TORRINGTON – The local girls’ basketball teams are entering their final week of the regular season and are still jostling for postseason seeding, so it’s a good time to check out where they stand.

Torrington
Record: 7-10 (2-3)
Ranking: NR

The Torrington Lady Trailblazers currently sit at 7-10 this winter. They tied with Wheatland in quadrant records, with a 2-3 mark. In the conference, Torrington sits tied for fourth behind Douglas, Worland and Buffalo.
The Lady Blazers started the season 3-1, picking up wins over Cody, Riverton and Lovell within the span of two days. They went on to lose their three contests at the Cabela’s Winter Classic to take a 3-4 record into 2017. Torrington started the new year winning three of four, before dropping five of their past six. They have faced some tough competition lately in Douglas and Worland.
Logan Murphy leads the Lady Blazers in total points, rebounds and steals. She averages 7.5 points over the 17 games this winter, along with 6.8 boards, 1.5 assists and 2.1 steals. The junior’s 6.8 rebounds per game is good enough for sixth in the conference.
Sydney Hill leads Torrington in points per game, with 7.6, but she missed the first game of the season so she has six total points fewer than Murphy. Hill sits atop the stat sheet in offensive boards per game (2.9) and she averages 5.2 total rebounds, 0.4 assists and 0.8 steals per game.
Kaelyn Riley and Taylor Walsh have turned in solid seasons so far. Riley averages 6.6 points, 5.4 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.9 steals per game. Walsh leads the Lady Blazers in three-pointers, nailing nine this winter. She contributes 6.3 points, 1.5 rebounds, a team-high 1.6 assists and 1.5 steals per game.
Adia Sherbeyn returned from injury halfway through the season and has accounted for 4.5 points, 3.8 rebounds, one steal and 1.6 steals in the eight games that she has taken the floor this winter. Shelbey Prusia (4.1 PPG, 2.5 RPG, 0.9 APG and 1.5 SPG) and Brooklyn Tucker (2.8 PPG, 1.2 RPB, 1.4 APG and 1.1 SPG) complete the list of top contributors for Torrington this winter.
The Lady Blazers have three games left during the regular season to try and shake things up before they play in the regional tournament in two weeks. Three of their six games at home this season are within the next week. They host Wheatland (10-7) Friday, Rawlins (7-10) Saturday and Buffalo (10-7) Tuesday.

Southeast
Record: 14-6 (3-3)
Ranking:

The Southeast Lady Cyclones have experienced substantial success this winter, but have not had the best performances in their own conference. They started the season 2-2, but then rattled off eight-straight wins. During that winning streak, Southeast picked up four wins against 1A teams, three wins against teams from 2A and one win over a Nebraska foe.
Since the hot streak, the Lady Cyclones have gone 4-4. Lusk snapped Southeast’s winning streak on Jan. 20 and the Lady Tigers got a win over the Goshen County team again on Friday. The Lady Cyclones’ four recent wins have come over Burns twice, Glenrock and Lingle-Fort Laramie. Their four losses since Jan. 20 include two to Lusk, Mitchell, Neb. and Pine Bluffs.
Over the past five games, Southeast’s only senior, Emily Buchanan, has led the team in scoring three times. She is averaging 13.8 points per game in that time frame. She has also led the Lady Cyclones in assists twice and steals four times over the past five games.
Hailey Anderson has been the leading scorer for one of the past five games and second-highest scorer in two. She has also had a big presence on the boards this season, leading Southeast in rebounds in three of the past five contests. Ellie Schmitt and Kaci Schmick round out the leading rebounds for the Lady Cyclones. Schmitt and Schmick have also done their fair share of scoring this winter.
The Lady Cyclones’ 14-6 mark this winter is second in their conference, only behind Pine Bluffs, who are 20-0. They currently sit third in their conference based on record within 2A Southeast. Pine Bluffs, who is 7-0 in the conference, and Lusk, who is 5-2 in the conference, sit above the Lady Cyclones in the standings.
Southeast has two games left to try and shake up the standings. They host 2A’s top-ranked Lady Hornets tonight and head to Glenrock Saturday.
If the Lady Cyclones want to make it to the state championship game, where they have been each of the past two season, they will have a tougher road this winter. They have been the top seed from the 2A Southeast in each of the last two seasons, but that will not be the case this winter. They will face stiffer competition during the regional tournament next weekend than they have in the past two years, when they won the east regional tournament.

Lingle-Fort Laramie
Record: 9-9
Ranking:

The Lingle-Fort Laramie Lady Doggers have played schedule full of 2A teams, but still have a 9-9 record this season. LFL got off to a big of a rocky start, as their first back-to-back wins came in the first weekend of 2017. In the new year, the Lady Doggers have won back-to-back games three times.
The Lady Doggers hit a rough patch from the end of January into February, where they lost four straight games, falling to Pine Bluffs (Jan. 28), Morrill, Neb. (Jan. 31), Southeast (Feb. 2) and Lusk (Feb. 3). They have hit a bit of a hot-streak, taking their past two games over Kaycee on Friday and Rock River Saturday by a combined 49 points.
Kaylynn Jefferson is LFL’s leading scorer this season, averaging 12.6 points per game. She ranks fourth in the conference and 10th in 1A in scoring. She has knocked down 54 three pointers this winter, to go along with 4.3 boards, a team-high two assists and 1.7 steals per game. Her two assists per game are good enough for sixth in the conference and
In the post, seniors Georgia Wollert and Makenna Greenwald have turned in solid performances each game. Greenwald is second on the team in scoring, with 10.1 points per game to her credit. She accounts for 8.5 rebounds, one assist and 2.9 steals per game.
Wollert is third on the team in scoring, racking up 9.1 points per contest. She leads the team in boards (9.3 RPG) and steals (4.1 SPG). She chips in 1.2 assists for the Lady Doggers each game. Wollert leads LFL with eight blocks this season. Wollert’s steal totals rank her fourth in the east and eighth in the state.
On the boards, Wollert and Greenwald rank fifth and sixth in the conference in rebounds per game. Wollert also stands eighth in the class in rebounds and Greenwald comes in at 10th.
Jade Cooper, with 8.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.9 steals per game, and Savannah Mirich, with 4.2 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game, round out the top-performers for the Lady Doggers.
As a member of the SEWAC, LFL has played a lot of 2A schools. The Lady Doggers have had only three games this season against teams in their conference, and they have won all three, beating Rock River (15-2) once and Guernsey-Sunrise (2-14) twice.
The Lady Doggers’ final two games this regular season come on the road tonight against Burns and at home against Pine Bluffs tomorrow. LFL will be heading to the regional tournament next weekend in Douglas.
