Goose Cook-off a success in 21st year

HAWK SPRINGS – The 21st Goose Cook Off started on a sunny Saturday afternoon with 13 cooks competing in four categories. Main Dish and People’s Choice Champion was Jaime Beightol, Appetizer Champion was Ashley Shimic, Soup/Chili Champion was Tim Toedter and Jerky Champion was Gerry Hrasky.

The winner of the raffle drawing for the rifle was Gerry Hrasky of Morrill and the winner of the Deadwood Trip was Randy Epler of Veteran. Jodi Simmons of Hawk Springs was recognized for her 20th year of cooking at the Goose Cook Off. She has participated and promoted this event since its beginning.

The success of this event is because of those who continue to support the Goose Cook Off. The money raised in past years has been used to build a public sewer system, improve the streets and plant windbreaks in Hawk Springs. Because Hawk Springs is not an incorporated town it receives no state funding so this event is their only means of making these improvements.
