Glass, Loya lead THS runners at state meet

AFTON – Torrington High School cross country runners got an early start to the offseason after the Class 3A State Cross Country Championships were moved up 24 hours due to concerns with the approaching winter weather.

When the final runners crossed the finish line, senior Sera Glass and sophomore Aydan Loya paced the Blazers at the state meet held at the Star Valley View Golf Course in Afton.

Glass led all Torrington runners with a 20th place finish in 21 minutes, 39.1 seconds. Freshman Ada Merrigan placed 62nd in 23:54.8, while junior Tyne Stokes was 66th in 24:03. Sophomore Amberly Froerer finished 74th in 24:46.6. Kyndra Wiford came home 95th in 29:07.3.

As a team, the Lady Blazers finished 13th with 305 points. Cody won the team championship with 87 points, edging Buffalo with 90. Star Valley was third with 102.

In the boys’ race, Loya placed 53rd in 19:22.5, and junior Weston Cronk finished 76th in 20:07.5. Myles Wilson finished 92nd in 21.16.2, while senior Timothy Randolph was 100th in 22:19.3

The Blazers didn’t record a team score. Lander Valley won the team title with 45 points, while Star Valley was second with 118. Lyman was third with 128.
