TORRINGTON – The first month of the girls basketball season is in the books and many teams are set to enter their conference schedule, with an eye toward the postseason.

Torrington

Current record: 2-6

The Lady Blazers have two wins over Riverton for their two wins on the season, but they have lost three-straight games. Most recently, Torrington fell to Beatrice, Neb., third-ranked Buffalo and 4A’s Laramie.

Torrington is third in the quadrant with its 2-6 record, with Douglas, the top team in the WyoPreps coaches and media poll, leading the pack at 8-0. Newcastle occupies the second slot at 2-2, while Wheatland sits fourth with a 1-6 record.

In the other quadrant in the east, Buffalo is atop the standings with a 5-2 record, followed by Rawlins (4-3), Thermopolis (2-4) and Worland (0-2).

On the opposite side of the state, second-ranked Lyman is in the top spot in the southwest quadrant with a 7-0 record. Fifth-ranked Mountain View is second at 4-2, followed by Star Valley, 2-5, and Pinedale, 0-6. In the northwest, fourth-ranked Powell has a 3-1 record. Lander sits at .500 at 3-3, followed by Cody at 3-4 and Riverton at 1-6.

Southeast

Current record: 2-4

Southeast has had three ranked teams so far this season, losing to 2A’s fifth-ranked Wyoming Indian, along with 1A’s Little Snake River (No. 2) and Farson-Eden (No. 5). The Lady Cyclones’ two wins this winter have come over Saratoga, 37-16, and Shoshoni, 36-30, both at the Burns Winter Classic.

The Lady Cyclones’ 2-4 record currently puts them fourth in the 2A Southeast, where they are looking up at the top-two ranked teams in 2A. Lusk is 5-1 and is No. 1, followed by Pine Bluffs, sitting second in the rankings and the 2A Southeast rankings at 4-1. Burns is third at 3-4 and Glenrock closes out the conference standings at 0-6.

In the northeast, Sundance is 4-3 and ranks fourth by WyoPreps. Big Horn, Upton and Wright are all at 3-3, with Moorcroft coming in at 2-5 and Tongue River with a 1-5 record.

Behind the two powerhouses in the southeast in Lusk and Pine Bluffs, Greybull ranks third with a 6-1 record. Rocky Mountain is still above Greybull in the standings, with a flawless, 6-0 record, while Shoshoni is 4-2, Lovell is 3-2 and Riverside is 1-3. In the southwest, Wyoming Indian is 7-3, with Big Piney, at 5-3, close on its heels. Wind River and Kemmerer round out the conference standings with a combined record of 4-9.

Lingle-Fort Laramie

Current record: 2-4

Two of the Lady Doggers’ four losses have come against the stiffest competition 1A has to offer, falling to top-ranked Encampment 55-13 and second-ranked Little Snake River, 61-18. L-FL does have wins over Hulett and Midwest by a combined score of 103-58.

L-FL is second in the 1A Southeast standings with a 2-4 record, behind top-seeded Rock River at 4-3. Rock River is the only team from the east part of the state to be ranked, where it is tied for fifth. Guernsey-Sunrise and Hanna-Elk Mountain are both 1-3 on the young season.

In the northeast, Arvada-Clearmont is starting to run away from the pack with a 4-2 record, while Hulett and Kaycee are both 2-4. Midwest is bringing up the rear at 0-6.

Four of the top-five teams in 1A come from the southeast, where Encampment is leading the way with a 6-0 record, followed closely by Little Snake River at 5-1. Cokeville is third in the rankings with a 4-2 record, while Farson-Eden is tied for fifth in the rankings, toting a 5-4 record this winter. Saratoga is 3-4. The final ranked team comes from the northwest, with St. Stephens holding a 3-1 record to lead the conference. Ten Sleep is 2-2 and Burlington is 1-4, while Meeteetse and Dubois have a combined record of 0-10.
