TORRINGTON – A group of young people from Gillette, Wyo., left a good lasting impression on their host community last week. Members of the Gillette All-Stars Little League team donated two picnic tables as a way of showing their appreciation for the local hospitality they enjoyed.
According to one of the coaches, Little League mother Heather Rodriguez, who thought it would be a good way to thank Torrington for hosting the tournament, inspired the project idea.
“We want the players and communities to know it is more than just baseball,” Lubben explained. “We want to leave each community better than we found it.”

About 25 people, including players, coaches and other helping hands, constructed the tables on-site Thursday afternoon – one at Homesteaders Museum and one at the Sports Complex where the district tournament games
were played.
Lubben said the Gillette Home Depot donated the tables, and Lubben “branded” the design on the table tops. The baseball message is “2017 All Star Host”. The lower right-hand corner reads: Thank You, Torrington From: Gillette All-Stars, with their logo.
Rodriguez, whose son has been in Little League six years, said she thought a community project would be a good learning experience for the young players.
“I think it’s important in today’s society to train our young men to be more community minded, and giving back to the host community seemed like a good opportunity,” Rodriguez said during a tour inside Homesteaders Museum. “And I want to add that we really enjoyed Torrington’s shops and the Broncho’s food.”
