TORRINGTON – Gerald "Craig" Smith, 68, of Torrington passed away Aug. 11 in Colorado Springs, Colorado surrounded by his family. Born Sept. 22, 1953, in Aberdeen, South Dakota. He was the firstborn to Gerald (Jerry) and Eldena (Munsch) Smith. He graduated from Aberdeen Central in 1972. He played football, ran hurdles in high school and worked for the railroad for many years until his retirement. His favorite saying was “I was born to be retired." He enjoyed retirement by spending time with family and friends. Craig filled his days by taking his dog Jaxon to the river to swim and pursuing his love for woodwork.

Craig married Jill Voight and to this union, three children were born Haven (Steve) Doolittle, Josh (Samantha), Jeb (Holly). He had five grandchildren and one on the way: Sam and Savannah Doolittle, Cambrie and Kyler Smith, Hayeslynn and Baby Smith due in February.

Craig is survived by his children; his faithful dog, Jaxon; father Jerry (Mary) of Aberdeen, South Dakota; brother Jeff of Minneapolis, Minnesota; sister Tammy (Dean) Wasem of Monument, Colorado; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

The love of his family was a big part of Craig's life. He was loved by many. His very distinct laugh was infectious. We will forever be grateful for having him as our father, son and brother. His legacy will live on through us, our children and our memories. Dad would want everyone to celebrate his life!

He was preceded in death by his spouse Jill, and his mother Eldena.

In memory of Craig Smith and his best friend Jaxon. It is true what they say Dog is Man's Best Friend. The family would appreciate your donation in Dad's name to benefit CBR Rescue. It would mean a lot to our dad and all of our family. https://secure.givelively.org/donate/chesapeake-bay-retriever-relief-and-rescue-inc/craig-smith-memorial.
