Genesys Martial Arts and Parish enjoy a year in business

TORRINGTON – The Genesys Martial Arts studio in Torrington, run by 16-year-old Kevin Parish, recently celebrated its inaugural year in business.
On April 4, Parish’s dojo turned a year old and he said that business is steadily growing. He now runs two classes, one for beginners and one for more advanced students. Parish is at the studio four days a week, often teaching two classes per day.
“It’s just a passion,” Parish said. “I love seeing all the kids advance through the ranks.”

Parish is continually working on growing his operation. He said they are working on getting an in-house store to sell students equipment needed for the classes. He is still the only full time trainer, but 16-year-old Sandra Vanatta recently moved to the Torrington area and she helps teach several classes a week alongside Parish.
“It was a great opportunity for me to be involved with another school,” Vanatta said. “I just love martial arts. I started with it at three and I’ve kept with it. It’s something I love to do.”
Parish currently has 23 students between his two classes. He will also be teaching a class at Eastern Wyoming College this summer.
The classes at his dojo at Git Fit are open to the public. He teaches beginner classes Monday through Thursday starting at 5:30 p.m. Immediately following the beginner class on Monday and Wednesday, Parish goes into the advanced class that runs until 7 p.m. To get involved, Parish said anyone can get a free first class at any of the classes he offers throughout the week.
