TORRINGTON – An apparent fundraiser being publicized around the area is not endorsed by the Torrington Volunteer Fire Department.
Firefighter and Public Information Officer Chuck Kenyon contacted the Telegram on Thursday morning regarding the fundraiser, which was reported being publicized on the radio. Kenyon said, while they're fairly confident the unnamed individual attempting to raise funds for TVFD is doing so honestly, the department wanted the public to be aware the fundraising was not at its behest.
"We are not requesting donations of any type regarding the incident from last night," Kenyon said. "And we are not endorsing anybody else’s requests for donations on our behalf."
At about 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 1, while firefighters were preparing for the annual Fourth of July fireworks show, an accidental detonation destroyed the fireworks in a storage area near the TVFD training field at Pioneer Park in Torrington. The incident remains under investigation.
