Forty-one Blazers place at regionals

THERMOPOLIS – The Torrington Trailblazer boys finished third as a team (94 points), while the Lady Blazers took fourth (98 points) at the 3A East Regional meet in Thermopolis on Friday and Saturday.
For the third time this season, Logan Harris broke the Torrington High School record in the shot put, this time with a throw of 62 feet, 0.5 inches, earning him first. In the discus, Harris snagged second with a throw of 144 feet, 2 inches.
Also in the discus, Nathaniel Woodruff placed, taking fourth with a throw of 126 feet, 10 inches. Woodruff added to his fourth-place finish in the discus, with a fourth-place finish in the shot put (43 feet, 11.5 inches). Jacob Wambolt was one spot ahead of Woodruff in the shot put, finishing third with a throw of 44 feet, 8.5 inches.
The Blazers snagged three of the top-eight slots in the pole vault. Tristan DeMott won the event after clearing 12 feet, 9 inches. Cade Schwartzkoft took fifth (10 feet, 9 inches) and Jared Spencer finished eighth (10 feet, 9 inches).
Rounding out the top field performances, Casey Britton finished sixth in the high jump with a 5-foot, 6-inch effort.
Aaron Borger had the best finish on the track for the Blazers, taking fourth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:05.54. He also took sixth in the 400-meter dash finals with a time of 53.90 seconds.
In the shorter sprints, Frank Rand and Mondell Tolman tied for sixth in the 100-meter dash prelims (11.60 seconds), earning them each a spot in the finals. Tolman took fifth in the finals with a time of 12.13 seconds and Rand clocked a time of 12.19 seconds, taking eighth. Rand was the only Blazer to reach the finals of the 200-meter dash, earning sixth with a time of 23.68 seconds.
Pake Haun and Josh Posten joined Borger in placing in the distance events. Haun took seventh in the 3200-meter run (11:43.70) and Posten was one place behind, finishing eighth (11:49.07).
Brice Krick reached the finals in both the 110 and 300-meter hurdles. He took eighth in the 110 hurdles (18.42 seconds) and sixth in the 300 hurdles (44.07 seconds).

The 1600-meter relay team of Borger, DeMott, Tolman and Bo Moorehouse had the best finish among the relays, taking second with a time of 3:32.16. Rand took the place of the Borger in the foursome for the 400-meter relay and Torrington took third (44.90 seconds). Borger, Haun, Posten and Cameron Juma clocked a time of 9:00.05 in the 3200-meter relay, taking fourth.
The Blazers racked up 94 team points to finish third, one point behind second-place Worland. Douglas won the boys’ team title with 187.5 points.
On the track for the Lady Blazers, Shelbey Prusia took third in the 100-meter dash (13.69 seconds) and fourth in the 200-meter dash (27.72 seconds). Onalisa Albaugh joined Prusia in the 200 finals, taking eighth with a time of 28.81 seconds.
The 200 was not the only event Albaugh reached the finals, as she took the track for the 400-meter finals, taking seventh with a time of 1:05.12. Dantia Palmer snagged fourth in the 400-meter dash (1:03.60).
Adia Sherbeyn was the only Lady Blazer to place in the distance events, clocking a time of 2:35.11 in the 800-meter run to take fifth.
Logan Murphy reached the finals of the 300-meter hurdles and finished third with a time of 49.46. Cheyenne Mickle reached the finals of the 100-meter hurdles, posting a time of 21.06 seconds to finish seventh.
Murphy, Palmer, Prusia and Wiford linked up for the 400-meter relay and reached the top of the podium with a time of 51.88 seconds. Albaugh was plugged in with Murphy, Wiford and Prusia for the 1600-meter hurdles, taking third with a time of 4:20.16. The 3200-meter relay team of Sherbeyn, Katie Wiford, Brielle Bivens and Renee Cline finished fifth (12:01.31).
The Lady Blazers dominated the pole vault, securing four of the top-eight spots. Nakalyn Garner finished second with a vault of 8 feet, 9 inches. Albaugh tied for fourth, clearing 7 feet, 9 inches, and Sarandon Keeran took sixth, clearing 7 feet, 3 inches. Katie Wiford put forth a 6-foot, 9-inch effort, earning her eighth.
In the long jump, Samantha Hill captured the top spot, clearing 33 feet, 7 inches. Renee Cline took third (32 feet, 3.75 inches) and Dantia Palmer snagged sixth (31 feet, 10.25 inches). Murphy led the Lady Blazers in the long jump, clearing 15 feet, 5.5 inches to take seconds. Hill took sixth with a jump of 15 feet, 2 inches.
Pamela Pierce was the only Lady Blazer thrower to reach the top-eight, earning eighth in the discus with a throw of 95 feet, 9 inches.
As a team, the Torrington girls racked up 98 points behind third-place Douglas’ 105.5. Buffalo won the girls’ team title with 169 points.
The Blazers who have qualified for the state meet head for Casper to close out the season in the 3A State Meet, starting Thursday and concluding Saturday.
