First and fourth quarters huge for L-FL girls

GUERNSEY – The Lingle-Fort Laramie Lady Doggers outscored Guernsey-Sunrise 33-3 between the first and fourth quarters en route to a 56-32 road win on Thursday.

The Lady Doggers jumped out to a 14-1 lead after the first eight minutes of action. In the second, the Lady Vikings started to reel in L-FL, outscoring the visitors 13-10, but the Lady Doggers still had a 24-14 lead at the break.

Guernsey-Sunrise poured in 16 points in the third quarter, with L-FL adding 13 to their total to head into the final quarter with the score resting at 37-30. The Lady Doggers had another explosive quarter, outscoring the Lady Vikings 19-2 in the final frame to seal the win.

Jade Cooper had a solid game in the win, racking up 19 points, including nine from behind the arc and eight from the charity stripe. She finished the game with 11 boards, completing her double-double, seven assists and four steals, all of which were team-highs.

Ashley Riley stepped up in the scoring category with 13 points, with three from three-point land and six from the free-throw line. She rounded out her stat line with six rebounds, including four offensive, an assist and three steals. Kaelyn Riley tallied 10 points to complete the double-digit scorers, which she paired with five rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Savannah Mirich kicked in seven points and nine rebounds for the Lady Doggers, while Kelcie Sargent added six points, two boards and an assist. Jessy White rounded out the scoring with one point, while she, Torey Bever and Kaylie Rafferty combined for three rebounds and a steal.

The Lady Doggers improved to 5-6 on the year, which ties them for the second-best record in the 1A Southeast. L-FL hit the road for a game in Morrill, Neb. on Tuesday after the press deadline. The Lady Doggers return to the floor this weekend, playing on the road against Burns on Friday at 5:30 p.m., before hosting Pine Bluffs on Saturday with a 2:30 p.m. tipoff.
