TORRINGTON – Torrington Community Hospital has welcomed the first baby of 2020.
After a long two week wait, Goshen County finally saw the arrival of this year’s New Year’s Baby.
Caleb and Rachel Shaner of Lusk welcomed Easton Riley Shaner to the family at 2 p.m. on Jan. 14, weighing 7 lbs. 4 oz. and measuring 19 1/2 inches long.

He was delivered by Dr. Bonnie Randolph, with the assistance of Ali Hart, a medical student from Rocky Vista University in Parker, Colo.

While the process of choosing a baby’s name is not as easy for some as it is for others, the Shaner’s had a goal in mind.

“We wanted to stick with ‘E’ names – my wife and I – and so we just were looking for some good strong names for boys on Pinterest and on the internet and stuff like that,” Caleb said. “We just kind of liked Easton, it kind of stuck, we chose his middle name – it went with it.”

Easton joins the family and an older brother, Elliott. They don’t have any hard and fast rules for the size of their family, but more of whatever happens, happens.

Keeping up with tradition, the Shaner’s were presented with a gift bag from the Hospital. Baby Easton will be going home with an array of goodies including some new blankets, a towel and outfit, a take-anywhere toy perfect for little hands and more. All items were purchased at Vandel Drug. The Shaner’s said the feeling of being able to walk out of the Hospital upon release with baby Easton is “perfect.”
