CHEYENNE – The Eastern Wyoming College women’s basketball team ended the regular season splitting with Casper College and Laramie County Community College.

On Wednesday, the Lady Lancers gave No. 15-ranked Casper College Lady Thunderbirds all they could handle.

EWC jumped out to a 22-10 lead, but the Lady T-Birds battled back to take the win 57-55.

In the second quarter, Casper battled back, tying the game at 34 going into halftime.

By the end of the third quarter, the Lady T-Birds led 47-44.

EWC scored the first 11 points of the fourth quarter, and it proved to be the final points the Lady Lancers scored in their upset bid.

Freshman Mara Neira led EWC with 18 points, while Rosa Revueltas and Ana Gascon had 10 each.

On Saturday, the Lady Lancers bounced back with a 75-72 win over Laramie County.

EWC had to fend off a furious comeback by the Lady Golden Eagles.

Over the final 10 minutes, LCCC outscored Eastern Wyoming 26-16 to cut the deficit to as few as three by the final horn.

Neira led the team with 24 points, while Gascon had 11. Sophomore Janette Hanni had 10.

The Lady Lancers end the regular season with a 16-11 record.

The Region IX Women’s Tournament is scheduled for March 3-5 and will be hosted by Casper College.
