MCCOOK, Neb. – The Eastern Wyoming College Lancer golf team won the Region IX scrimmage last Friday in McCook.

The Lancers scored 329 with McCook Community College placing second with 336.

“It was good to get the team win and individual win for Tomas, but overall, we had a rough day,” coach Zach Smith said. “Heritage Hills is such a tough course, especially when you add in the wind that we had that day.”

Leading the Lancers and winning the tournament was sophomore Tomas Kubata, Prague, Czech Republic, with a score of 74.

“We have a fairly young team that had not played the course, so it was a learning experience,” Smith said. “I think there are some things we can learn from this tournament that should make us stronger in the long run. We’ll put some work in this week and see what we can do in Sterling.”

The Lancers will travel to Sterling, Colo., for a Region IX Scrimmage today, at a tournament hosted by Northeastern Junior College.

Other Lancers on the scrimmage team scored as follows:

Conrado Chozas, freshman, Madrid, Spain – 80, seventh

Remington Newell, freshman, Spanish Fork, Utah – 84, tied 10th

Tyler Wallace, freshman, Ephraim, Utah – 91, tied 20th

Owen Walsh, freshman, Ottawa, Canada – 97, tied 25th
