EWC under brief lockdown

TORRINGTON – On Thursday the Eastern Wyoming College main campus in Torrington was briefly placed on a voluntary lockdown, according to a press release from the college.

Sgt. Patrick Connelly with the Torrington Police Department said officers responded during the early afternoon to a report of an unidentified individual with a firearm in the area of Torrington Community Hospital. Officers responded to the scene and, upon further investigation, learned it was a person with a BB gun.

“Somebody called in with concerns, but it turned out to be nothing,” Connelly said. “There was no threat of any kind.”

Upon notification from the Torrington Police Department of a potential armed individual in the area, College officials decided to place the campus on lockdown. The college was notified by the Torrington Police Department approximately 20-25 minutes later that there was no longer a threat and the lockdown was lifted.
