TORRINGTON – Eastern Western Wyoming is hosting a formal reception meet and greet of its new President Jeffry Hawes next week.

In a press release Wednesday, EWC College Relations Director Bradley Staman wrote, “Eastern Wyoming College will hold a formal reception to welcome the college’s new president, Dr. Jeffry Hawes on Wednesday, July 20 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the CTEC Commons’ area on EWC’s Torrington Campus, 3200 W. C St.”

“The event will be catered, and a cash bar will be available,” Staman added. “Everyone is welcome to come and meet Dr. Hawes – he will share a short speech around 4 p.m.”

Dr. Hawes’s first day at the college was July 1 and he already has goals and plans to greatly enrich EWC environment as well as draw in more students.

“I’ve had a number of meetings with various community members, such as Goshen County School District Superintendent Ryan Kramer, Torrington Police Department Chief Matt Johnson and a few others – I plan to have more outreach, ongoing and continuing conversations with other community leaders to help not only EWC thrive, but also our entire community,” Dr. Hawes told the Telegram.

The Michigan native is excited to plant roots in Torrington and looks forward to helping local community leaders and employers by providing “pathways to improving skill sets local employers are seeking in the various (career and technical) CTE fields our wider community has to offer.”

A future story next week will feature a full interview with Dr. Hawes, as well as his background, goals and plans for EWC as it relates to building a stronger college, city, county and statewide community that is important to Wyomingites and international students.
