TORRINGTON – Eastern Wyoming College was notified that a female student in her 20s tested positive for COVID-19 on Oct. 6.
The female student lives off campus and will be isolating in her home, according to Goshen County Public Health Emergency Response Coordinator Heather Saul.
According to a press release issued by the college, officials have closed all areas where the student was present to do a deep clean of the facilities. Director of College Relations Tami Afdahl said these facilities will reopen at noon on Oct. 7 and classes affected have been moved online for the time being.
Goshen County Public Health will conduct contact tracing and will contact those considered to have had close contact with the individual, meaning they were within six feet of them for longer than 15 minutes.
Saul said the student was symptomatic when she participated in surveillance testing through her employer and tested positive.
Afdahl said this is the second positive case on campus and the only active case at this time.
