EWC still recovering from cyber-event

TORRINGTON – Eastern Wyoming College in Torrington and Douglas is still in the midst of recovering from a ransomware attack that victimized the college in June. Great efforts have been made to restore College operations back to pre-event status but there is much work still remaining.

Despite the system functionality challenges, the college is prepared and excited for students to return to campus to kick off the Fall 2021 semester with new student orientation on Sunday, Aug. 22 and classes beginning on Monday, Aug. 23. Students are encouraged to ask questions or seek assistance as operations are restored. Below are a number of informational items that are critically important for students as the
semester begins.

Torrington campus students:

Will be available in New Student Orientation packets

Bookstore:

Students who received a book award or know that they have aid available for books must fill out and sign the Bookstore Authorization form to charge books to their financial aid

Class Rosters:

Will be available in Canvas, as soon as information is available, likely not on Monday and will be subject to change

Students need to attend all classes listed on their schedules so faculty can create an accurate list

Residence halls:

Residence halls have been rekeyed to allow your room key to open the outside doors

Food services:

New this year – one meal plan allowing 17 meals per week. Meals can be utilized in the cafeteria or Student Center

Student Center will be open from 7 a.m. – 9 p.m., Monday – Friday with meals/food only available from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m., Monday – Friday

Cafeteria will serve meals Monday – Sunday, with 2 meals offered on Saturday and Sunday (this is new from one meal offered in the past)

Billing:

An estimated cost of attendance is available in the Business Office and is subject to change based on changes to student’s individual schedules

Financial aid:

An estimated Financial Aid award is available in the Financial Aid office and is subject to change based on changes to student’s individual schedules

This is a manual process, so please remain patient

Students experiencing dire financial circumstances can speak directly to Financial Aid about Emergency Loan/Fund options

Academic calendar:

Financial aid disbursement dates may be adjusted and communicated via the College’s website and other social media

Student IDs:

Student IDs are unavailable at this time

Residence Hall students need to stop by College Relations to have their photo taken for temporary identification measures

Douglas campus students:

Paper course schedules will be available beginning August 20, 2021. The paper schedules will include the courses you have signed up for with the times and room assignments listed. These will be available at the front desk or during student orientation.

EWC Bookstore will be open on Saturday, Aug. 21, 2021 and Sunday, Aug. 22, 2021. Students will be able to charge the needed books for the 2021 fall semester if they have financial aid. Please make sure to keep all receipts.

New Student Orientation will be Friday, Aug. 20, 2021 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Douglas Campus.

Financial Aid stat can be provided upon request.

Listed below are critical dates and deadlines for students. Please make sure to review these important dates. Consult with your advisor for any course and/or schedule changes as soon as possible. If you don’t know who your advisor is, please contact us immediately.

Monday, Aug. 23, 2021 – Regular Semester and Block A Classes Start

Thursday, Aug. 26, 2021 – Last day to add Block A (8 week) classes at 4 p.m./Last day to drop Block A (8 week) classes for a 100% tuition and fee refund at 4 p.m.

Friday, Aug. 27, 2021 – Last day to add Regular semester (16 week) classes at 4 p.m.

Monday, Aug. 30, 2021 – Late registration ends at 4 p.m.

Monday, Sept. 6, 2021 – Labor Day/No Classes/Campus Closed

Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2021 – Last day to drop regular semester classes and Block A (8-week) classes for 100% tuition only refund at 4 p.m.

Thursday, Sept. 9, 2021 – Financial Aid Disbursement to Students’ Accounts

Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2021 – Financial Aid Student Refunds Issued
