Lancer golf wins OJC golf tournament

LAJUNTA, Colo. – The Eastern Wyoming College Lancer golf team traveled to LaJunta to compete in the Otero Junior College tournament, Sept. 26-27, winning the two-day tournament with a score of 566.

EWC was 18 strokes in front of McCook Community College who was second with 584.

“We met our team goal of shooting par the first day of the tournament which helped get us a lead going into day two,” coach Zach Smith said. “The second day was pretty windy for the first nine holes so score across the board were a bit higher than day one scores.” 

Sophomore Mason Hale, Atkinson, Neb., shot scores of 66 and 68 to win with a total of 134.

“I was pleased to see the guys get the team win and proud of Mason’s individual win,” Smith said. “He played great golf on both days to get this first win of the season.”

The Lancers will conclude the fall season Oct. 3-4 in Lamar, Colo.

Lady Lancers knock off Casper College

CASPER – The Eastern Wyoming College Lady Lancers improved to 2-0 in Region IX North action with a sweep 3-0 (25-18, 25-15, 25-15) of Casper College.

Sophomore Charlene Hosly slammed home a team-high 15 kills, while sophomore Tina Betham added nine and freshman Vanja Przulj seven. The Lady Lancers served up nine aces in the sweep, including two apiece from freshman Devyn Volz, sophomore Alexis Trowbridge and freshman J’Adora Hayes.

On the defensive side of the net, Hayes tallied a team-high 14 digs, while sophomore Nadia Montalban El-Hiriche added eight. EWC also tallied a combined six blocks, including two each from sophomore Allie White and Przulj.

The Lady Lancers (16-6 overall and 2-0 in the Region IX North) returns to the Verl Petsch Jr. Activities Center for a weekend doubleheader Friday and Saturday. EWC hosts Central Wyoming College (7-11 and 1-1) at 7 p.m. Friday and Western Wyoming Community College (13-6 and 4-0) at 3 p.m. Saturday.

Rayhill and Hough qualify for short round at CWC rodeo

RIVERTON – Two members of the Eastern Wyoming College Lancer rodeo women’s team earned spots in the short round of the rodeo recently hosted by Central Wyoming College. Karissa Rayhill qualified in goat tying and Shay Hough qualified in barrel racing. 

Rayhill, a sophomore from Martin, S.D., placed fifth in the short round and fifth in the average of the goat tying in 17.5 seconds.

Teammate Hough, a freshman from Gillette, WY, was fifth in the first round of barrel racing and was ninth in the average with a time of 36.43 seconds.

The Lancers finished sixth with 55 points. The University of Wyoming won the team title with 445 points, while Sheridan College was second with 360 Gillette College was third with 325.

The Lancer Rodeo team will compete in Lamar, Colo., Oct. 4-6.
