TORRINGTON – Eastern Wyoming College has moved on past Neal Sherbeyn as the head men’s basketball coach and fitness center director and are now in the process of looking to fill the position.
According to a press release by EWC released Monday, after a review of the men’s basketball program, the decision to go in a different direction was made.
“We appreciate everything coach Neal Sherbeyn and his staff have contributed to EWC the past few years, both on the court and in the Fitness Center,” EWC president Lesley Travers said in the release. “It is in the best interest of the program to make a change.”
Sherbeyn was named the interim head coach after Casey Jones stepped aside heading into the 2016-17 season. Following his first year at the helm, Sherbeyn was hired as the full-time coach and fitness center director. During his first season coaching the Lancers, EWC went 4-26, followed by a 1-27 record this past winter.
The search has begun for a new head coach and fitness center director. Sherbeyn will finish out his current contract that ends on June 30, with the new coach and fitness center director taking over on July 1.
