EWC opens spring schedule in Gillette

Lancers host annual Lancer Rodeo Friday through Sunday at the Fairgrounds

GILLETTE – The Eastern Wyoming College rodeo team opened the 2022 portion of their schedule with a trip to the Gillette College rodeo last weekend.

The Lancer women finished third, while the men finished fifth. The University of Wyoming swept the team titles in Gillette.

The Lady Lancers were led by sophomore Karissa Rayhill of Martin, South Dakota. She scored 170 of the team’s 185 points.

Rayhill was second in the women’s all-round standings, behind only UW’s Kelsey Lensegrav. Rayhill was third in barrel racing in 27.57 seconds and was sixth in goat tying in 17.2 seconds.

Freshman Kaitlynn Idler, of Laramie, was eighth in goat tying in 19.1 seconds, while sophomore Baily Coombs, of Wellington, Colorado, qualified for the short round in the breakaway roping.

In the men’s division, freshman Ty Moser, of Volga, South Dakota, and sophomore Tristan Hunter, of Ardmore, South Dakota, finished the weekend third in team roping average with a time of 16.3 seconds.

The Lancers host their annual spring rodeo this weekend at the Goshen County Fairgrounds.

Friday’s slack is scheduled for noon and the evening performance is set for 6 p.m. Saturday’s slack is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. with the evening performance also set for 6 p.m. Sunday’s championship round is scheduled for 11 a.m.
