EWC men winless in Idaho trip

TWIN FALLS, Idaho – The Eastern Wyoming College men’s basketball team went winless at the Rob Green Classic hosted by the College of Southern Idaho.

The Lancers opened the weekend against the CSI Golden Eagles on Thursday. In the schools’ fourth meeting, CSI defeated the Lancers 95-63.

EWC kept things close for a half.

No. 11-ranked Southern Idaho led the Lancers 37-35 at half, but the Golden Eagles poured on 58 points over the final 20 minutes. The home team shot a blistering 54.3% in the second half, while limiting EWC to only 39.3%. CSI also forced 16 EWC second half turnovers.

Freshman John Barbee led the team with 13 points and nine rebounds. Freshman Atte Vuoristo and sophomores Ryan Swan and Gad Tshishimbi Biseba added nine points each.

On Friday, the Lancers fell 85-74 to Tyler (Texas) Junior College.

EWC led 45-39 at halftime before being outscored 46-29 in the second half in the 11-point loss.

The Lancers held onto the lead until Tyler tied the game at 55 with 13:15 left in the game. Tyler took the lead on a pair of free throws just seconds later.

Barbee led the team with 17 points, while Vuoristo added 13. Swan tossed in 11 points, while freshman Micah Glover had 10. Sophomore Seal Osajivbe grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds.

The Lancers shot 64.3% in the first half compared to only 39.3% in the second half.

On Saturday, Eastern Wyoming wrapped up the weekend against Region IX foe Casper College.

Both teams poured in 52 points each through the first 20 minutes before Casper pulled away late for a 95-91 win over the Lancers.

Barbee pulled the Lancers within one at 88-87 with 1:38 left in the ballgame, but it proved to be as close as EWC came to seeing the lead for the remainder of the game.

Barbee led the team with 20 points, while sophomore Marko Krtinic tallied a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Glover with 19 points, while Vuoristo had 13.

The Lancers (1-5) are back in action this weekend at the SLCC Tournament hosted by Salt Lake Community College in Taylorsville, Utah. EWC faces Real Salt Lake at 5 p.m. Thrusday, Nov. 17, Taylormade Prep at 5 p.m. Friday and SLCC at 3 p.m. Saturday.
