EWC men open season 2-0

TORRINGTON – The Eastern Wyoming College men’s basketball team opened the season 2-0 with wins over Adams State JV and Northwest Kansas Tech.

On Friday, the Lancers defeated Adams State, 108-41.

Sophomore Jonathan Hall led the team with 19 points, while sophomore Jeremi Jiba added 14. Freshman Alexander Karras tossed in 10.

On Saturday, EWC was back in action, and NKT made it a game through the first 24 minutes.

However, over the final 16 minutes, the Lancers pulled away for a 95-68 victory.

The visiting Mavericks jumped out to a 7-2 lead, but 3-pointers from freshman Carter Berish and sophomore Jonatan Arvidsson gave the Lancers an 8-7 advantage five minutes into the game.

EWC never trailed the remainder of the game, but Northwest Kansas wasn’t going to go away.

With the Lancers leading 37-30, sophomore forward David Hook drained a trey to open the second half, sparking an 8-0 spurt.

Just as quickly, the Mavericks countered with their own 8-0 run, to draw back within seven.

However, the rest of the game belonged to the Lancers.

Over the next seven minutes, EWC pushed its lead to as many as 15 at 65-50, reaching as many as 30 in the final minute of the game.

The Lancers were led in scoring by Karras with 15, while Arvidsson had 14 points. Hook added 12 points, and sophomore Jordan Potts dropped in 11.

Eastern Wyoming travel to North Platte Community College and McCook Community College Friday and Saturday, respectively.
