WINDSOR, Colorado – The Eastern Wyoming College men’s basketball team dropped a pair of games over the weekend to Region IX South division foes Otero Junior College and Lamar Community College at the Region IX Shootout.
On Friday, the Lancers fell to Lamar, 94-91.
Lamar outscored EWC 42-39 to edge the Lancers.
Sophomore Nikolas Gustavson led the Eastern Wyoming with 22 points, while freshman Matthew Veen added 14. Freshman Mark Tom added 12 off the bench, while sophomores Kayden Toldson and Quincy Taylor added 10 and 11, respectively.
The next day, the Lancers’ comeback attempt fell short 91-82.
EWC trailed 45-25 at halftime before dropping 57 points on Otero in the second half.
It wasn’t enough for the Lancers to complete the comeback.
Gustavson led EWC in scoring with 21 points, while Taylor added 16. Veen tossed in 14, while freshman Marko Krtinich had 12.
The Lancers are now 8-7 on the year.
Eastern Wyoming returns to action Dec. 27-29 at the Pima Holiday Tournament in Arizona. EWC plays Cochise College at 4 p.m. Monday, Dec. 27, Central Arizona College at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 28 and Pima Community College at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29.
