STERLING, Colo. – The Eastern Wyoming College Lancer golf team won the annual fall tournament hosted by Northeastern Junior College on Sept. 19-20.
The Lancers shot a 579 to take the win, while McCook Community College was second with a score of 601.
“We played a different course than we normally play in Sterling, so it was a learning experience for all teams and coaches on the first day,” EWC coach Zach Smith said. “I think we played a little too aggressive on the first day. There are some holes that invite some aggressive play. The second day the guys played smarter and we were able to shoot a better team score as a result.”
Sophomore JoVin Tan, Taiping, Malaysia, won the two-day tournament shooting scores of 69, 69 for 138.
“It was great to see JoVin get his first tournament win as a Lancer,” Smith said. “He has been really close to winning during his time here so I’m happy to see him finally put two great rounds together.”
The Lancers will travel to LaJunta, Colo. to play in the Otero Junior College tournament September 26-27.

Tomas Kubata, freshman, Prague, Czech Republic, 73, 72 – 145, 2nd
