LA JUNTA, Colo. – The Eastern Wyoming College Lancer golf team recently returned from La Junta, Colo., where they competed in the Otero Junior College spring golf tournament.
The Lancers finished second at the one-day tournament with a team score of 317 behind Otero College, who scored 314. The second day of the tournament was canceled due to weather.
“The event was shortened to one tough day because of the inclement weather. It was gusting up to 60-mph on Thursday with even more wind and rain on Friday,” coach Zach Smith said. “The guys battled through the wind and managed to come away with second place. We are looking forward to the next tournament and hopefully bringing home a Lancer team and individual win.”
Leading the Lancers was freshman Harry Walch, who shot a 73. Other Lancer team scores were as follows: Adrian Torres-Ruiz, sophomore – 77, third; Jared Pilkington, freshman – 80, tied for eighth; Eric Lovell, sophomore – 81, tied for 10th; Denton Shaw, sophomore – 83; Arvy Shongwe, freshman – 83.
The golf team will compete in Lamar, Colo. today through tomorrow.
