TORRINGTON – The Eastern Wyoming College volleyball team wrapped up the home portion of the schedule Friday and Saturday, falling to Northwest College and Central Wyoming College.

On Friday, Northwest defeated the Lady Lancers 3-1. The Lady Trappers won the opening set 25-15, but EWC evened the match in the second set, winning 25-23. The third and fourth sets went to the Northwest 25-19, 25-12.

Sophomore Ana Djurovic led EWC with 10 kills and three aces, while freshman Avery West added nine kills. Freshman Viktoria Sarbakova tallied 24 assists, while Djurovic served up three aces. Freshman Hannah Pharr had a team-high three blocks – one solo and two assisted blocks.

The next afternoon, the Lady Lancers suffered a 25-15, 25-15, 25-13 sweep at the hands of the No. 9-ranked Central Wyoming College Lady Rustlers.

Despite the sweep, EWC led in each of the three sets.

In the opening set, the Lady Lancers fell behind 4-1 but a kill by sophomore Makenna Reinert tied the match at seven and an attack error gave EWC an 8-7 advantage, forcing CWC to use a timeout.

The lead was short-lived as Central scored nine of the next 11 points en route to the opening set win.

In the second set, the Lady Rustlers scored the first three points, but the Lady Lancers tied the set at four and held a brief 5-4 lead. Much like the first, CWC scored seven of the next eight points to take the second set by 10 points.

In the final set, EWC netted the first point and kept the set close for a while.

Central Wyoming tied the set at eight apiece, and that’s when the visitors started to pull away for sweep.

The loss to CWC was the final home match of the season and for the careers of two sophomores – Reinert and Halle Hogan.

Djurovic led EWC with eight kills, while Reinert added seven. Sarbakova recorded 17 assists, while Pharr tallied two aces. Freshman Pandora Keele led the team with three blocks – two solo and one assisted.

EWC’s (3-18 overall and 2-5 in the Region IX North) final three matches are on the road. They travel to Western Wyoming on Friday, Oct. 21 for a 6 p.m. match and to Casper College on Saturday, Oct. 22. They wrap up the regular season on Friday, Oct. 28 in Cheyenne at Laramie County Community College at 6 p.m.
