TORRINGTON – Despite getting off to a good start, the Eastern Wyoming College Lady Lancers fell in three sets Tuesday to their rival Western Nebraska Community College in their third meeting of the season.

The Lady Lancers came out of the gates hot, scoring the first three points on the match they continued to hold a lead and built an 11-7 lead, forcing a Lady Cougar timeout. After the break, the visitors turned things around, scoring nine points in a row, flipping the script into a 16-11 advantage. A timeout by EWC halted the WNCC run shortly, but the Lady Cougars went on to pick up the first set, 25-14.

In the second set, WNCC picked up where they left off, rushing out to an, eight-point lead (14-6). After an EWC timeout, the Lady Cougars continued their run, ballooning their lead to double-digits at 17-7. Down 24-13, EWC managed to fend off the set loss for three points, but fell 25-16.

The Lady Lancers failed to hold a lead in the third set. They did have the game tied three times, but as the set unfolded, WNCC began to distance themselves. EWC again faced a 17-7 deficit and they were unable to recover, falling 25-10.

Dawson Sharman led the Lady Lancers at the net, racking up five kills, which she paired with an ace. Shaniah Freeseman was just behind Sharman, accounting for four kills. She added two blocks to her stat line.

Alex Simmerman led the way in digs, with 10, followed closely by Helena Khouri, who chipped in nine. Simmerman also had four assists. Kylee Tresch, who also had an ace, led the way in assists, with six.

EWC dropped to 2-15 on the season with a 0-5 record in the conference. The Lady Blazers hit the road this weekend to try and pick up a couple of conference wins. They play Friday against Casper College at 7 p.m. and against Sheridan College at 3 p.m. Saturday.
