EWC closing campus for one week due to COVID-19

TORRINGTON – Eastern Wyoming College is closing its campus next week, Nov. 23-27, due to an uptick in COVID-19 cases in Goshen County.

The campus would have only been open Monday and Tuesday, according to a Nov. 19 press release.

"We feel it is in the best interest of our employees to just shut the college down for the week," wrote EWC President Lesley Travers in the release.

EWC planned to transition to online course delivery after the Thanksgiving holiday, but the Torrington campus transitioned Oct. 27 to a mostly online format due to case numbers. At that time, students in career technical programs requiring more "hands on" instruction, including welding, cosmetology, barbering, veterinary technology and nursing, continued to learn face-to-face.

Residence hall students were also asked to move out by Nov. 1 if possible.

“Our employees need to rest and take care of themselves so we can come back on the 30th and finish out the year strong," Travers said. "This will also give us another opportunity to deep clean the facilities on top of the daily cleaning and fogging already occurring.”

As of Nov. 19, EWC has reported 10 positive cases of COVID-19 among students.
