GILLETTE – The Eastern Wyoming College men’s and women’s basketball teams wrapped up the regular season over the weekend with road trips to Cheyenne and Gillette.
On Wednesday, the Lancers swept Laramie County Community College, with the men coming away with an 83-71 win, while the Lady Lancers scored a 63-61 win.
Freshman Montse Gutierrez Ibanez stole an inbounds pass with eight seconds left to secure the win for EWC.
Freshman Ane Esnal Aguirre and sophomore Paula Martinez Sanz led the EWC women with 18 points each. Sophomore Earl Baker Jr. led the men’s team with 18 points.
On Saturday, Eastern Wyoming traveled north to Gillette to wrap up the regular season.
The Lady Lancers fell 96-71, while the men lost 80-57.
Freshman Emilia Axelsson led EWC with 16 points in the women’s game, while sophomore David Hook led the men’s team with 12.
The Lady Lancers, the No. 3 seed, will host Central Wyoming College, the No. 6 seed, in the first round of the Region IX playoffs. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Friday. The men will return to Gillette for the first round of the playoffs on Saturday. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
