Evans still at-large, considered armed and dangerous

GOSHEN COUNTY – Stephen Evans, a fugitive wanted on felony drug warrants out of Colorado, is still at-large and considered to be armed and dangerous.

Lieutenant Jeff Chitwood of the Scotts Bluff County Sheriff’s Office said that law enforcement officials have received several tips on Evans’ location, but none have proven successful. Evans is a 48-year-old white male, stands five feet, nine inches tall and weighs approximately 160 pounds.

“He has not been located yet.” he said. “We have received several tips on him and we have checked out all of those tips and are continuing to do so, but none of those tips have panned out so far.”

Chitwood said that based on the information the SBCSO has received, it’s likely that Evans is still in the area.

“So far, the tips that we’ve received indicate that he is still somewhere in the area,” Chitwood said.

“If somebody has information or thinks they’ve seen him, we need to know about it. They can contact the Scotts Bluff County Communications Center by 911 or our local Crime Stoppers numbers.”

The Goshen County Sheriff’s Office and the Wyoming Highway Patrol were involved in a manhunt searching for Evans Sunday night, along with several law enforcement agencies from Nebraska. He was believed to be at a residence near Henry, but was not there when police arrived to search the property.

Earlier this week, the GCSO issued a statement on its website to remind citizens to keep their cars and homes locked and to report any suspicious activity to law enforcement by calling central dispatch or calling 911.

“Goshen County residents are reminded to follow a few simple precautionary measures when there are incidents in our county or neighboring counties/states,” the statement read. “Always ensure vehicles are locked and keys are not left inside. Lock and secure all outbuildings and unoccupied buildings, as well as homes. We encourage citizens to report immediately any suspicious people or activity to dispatch at 307-532-7001. Failure to report the information immediately reduces our chances of being able to make contact with anyone. Please do not use Facebook, messenger or websites to report any needs for our deputies, call dispatch to ensure a prompt response. All reports are followed up on to ensure the safety of our citizens.”
