TORRINGTON – Memorial services for Ethelyn Irene Pierson, 94, will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, 2019, at the Colyer Funeral Home Chapel with a fellowship time will follow at the Holiday Inn Express. Ethelyn passed away Oct. 13, 2019, at the Powell Valley Care Center in Powell and was laid to rest. 

Ethelyn requested that memorial contributions be made to Christian Record Services for the Blind, PO Box 6097, Lincoln, NE 68506.

Ethelyn was born Oct. 20, 1924, to Lester and Clara (Hallock) Orr. She spent her childhood with her two younger siblings on the beloved family ranch near Briggsdale, Colo. She loved her horses, all animals and the open prairie. She attended Campion Academy in Loveland, Colo., and graduated from Union College in Lincoln with a BS in education. She loved teaching and taught school in Colorado, Wyoming and Nebraska, though her main occupation was being a wife and mother while also helping out at the dairy. 

She married Walter E. Pierson in 1950 and they bought a dairy farm northeast of Torrington. Three daughters Twila, Wanda and Carol were born to this union. After Walter’s death and the sale of the dairy farm she moved to Golden Manor. She spent many happy years there actively involved in numerous activities including the Kitchen Band, Retired Teachers, AARP, Senior Center events and classes, Share and Care and leading Bible studies.

Ethelyn was a lifetime member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church and served her church faithfully. She held numerous offices, had a passion for children’s ministries and blessed the church with her musical talents. After living at Evergreen Court for three years she moved to Powell in 2016 to be close to family.

Ethelyn is survived by her three daughters and their children: Twila Pierson and daughter Chloe Pierson, Wanda (Jack) Webb and children Canaday Pierson and Joshua (Cari) Jones, Carol (Kevin) Grow and children Eli Grow, Aaron Grow, Abby (Danny) McLean and Anna (Devon) Merrigan; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, family and close friends. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother; a sister; and an infant great-grandchild.
