TORRINGTON – Torrington High School senior Caleigh Essert remains unbeaten on the golf course this summer.

She added to her impressive resume of wins, including two tournaments in Arizona, five this spring, along with Sheridan, Laramie and this event in Evanston.

The victory in the America’s Cup Flight at Evanston’s Purple Sage Golf Club last weekend as part of the 96th Wyoming Men’s and Women’s Amateur Championships.

In the three-day, three-round event, Essert fired rounds of 76, 76 and 73 for a tournament total of 225.

“I played very well, I felt like,” she said. “My driving was very well. My putting kind of struggled the first day, but I still came in with a great score.”

Over the course of the tournament, Essert 9-over-par score was 23 shots ahead of second place.

“There were different flights in this tournament, but since I was going out for the Junior America’s Cup, I was put in the Junior America’s Cup flight,” Essert explained.

It was her third consecutive win in the event. As a result of the win, Essert will travel to Evergreen, Colo. to take part in the Girls Junior America’s Cup Tournament hosted by the Junior Golf Alliance of Colorado at the Hiwan Golf Club on July 23-27.

At the conclusion of the trip to Colorado, she will return to Sheridan for the Junior State Amateur Tournament in the first week of August prior to starting her defense of her Wyoming Class 3A State Championship this fall.

“I want to thank the community for their support and Dave Dent at the Cottonwood Country Club,” Essert concluded.
